Hmm, an introduction. This feels a little like kindergarten, or maybe AA.

Hi, my name is Veronica Mars, and I'm an alcoholic. I'm six months sober…

Why do you want to know about me? I'm not really that interesting, I promise. You'll probably find something more interested on late night television. Or maybe not. You be the judge. I'm eighteen years old and when I was sixteen, my best friend was murdered. It changed my life. Before that, I was probably a lot like you, a normal person, living a normal, maybe even almost boring life. I never expected to be the girl I am now. I won't get into details because I would prefer to keep that to myself, so I'll only tell you what you really need to know.

I'm Veronica, my father is Keith. My mother is gone. My best friends are Wallace Fennel and Cindy Mackenzie, names that I'm sure mean nothing to you, but you wanted an introduction and here it is. It may not be the best introduction ever, but it's honest, and really who wants to read an 87 page novel about how great someone's pet turtle is? I've got a great pet though, a pitbull named Backup, but I'm sure you don't want to hear me drone on about him for about 87 pages, do you? So I think this was enough of an introduction, I've got all the bases covered here. I feel like we've grown closer emotionally, and now we can call ourselves old friends. So why don't you come on over and have a brew, buddy? We can watch old movies and wax nostalgic about the good old days.

If you really want to know more about me, you're just going to have to ask, aren't you?

What was high school like for you?

High school was a time that was very bittersweet for Veronica. The time that was spent with Lilly was full of carefree days, she had everything she wanted, a boyfriend, a loving family, and an awesome best friend, but this time did not last for Veronica. After Lilly's death, life really started to suck. Her father blamed Jake and her mother left, Veronica stuck by her dad but deep down she felt really lost and alone. Lilly's death had devastated her and changed her for life. She would never be the same.

She'd chosen to stick by her friends, so she went from being Miss Popular to an outcast almost overnight. Kids talked about her behind her back, called her names, and stabbed her in the back. There more rumors about her than there were about Paris Hilton and the sex tape. She went to a party, Shelly's end of the year party where she was roofied and raped. Soon after that she'd cut her hair and tried to pretend that all of the things people were saying about her didn't matter. At least she still had her dad, and she worked with him in his private detective office, helping around the office but eventually Veronica started taking on cases of her own.

Junior year, she met Wallace Fennel, who became one of her best friends. She was still obsessed with finding out what really happened to Lilly. She loved her so much, and she was gone. Lilly Kane was never coming back. She had been so full of life and she'd died at seventeen. Her life was tragically cut short and it was almost all Veronica could think about. It was a rough year for her, contending with mixed feelings for Duncan, Logan Echolls, being duped by Troy Vandergraff, and all the rest of the pressure that came with being a teenage girl. Lilly's death haunted Veronica and she was determined to solve it, she didn't believe that the man who confessed to the murder had killed her friend, and she'd been right. She discovered the identity of her friend's killer, and was horrified to find out that it was the father of her current boyfriend, Aaron Echolls, but not before thinking that Logan had killed Lilly. It had been a rollercoaster of a year, but she'd hoped to put it behind her now that she knew what happened to Lilly.

She was hoping senior year would be better, she'd left the PI business and was working at Java the Hut. Over the summer she and Logan had broken up, things in Neptune were worse than ever. The bus crash did not help this. Once again Veronica was thrust into another mystery that just needed to be solved. She knew kids on that bus, but more disturbing than that, she was supposed to be on that bus. She was not supposed to be alive. There had been one survivor of the bus crash, and that had been Meg Manning, who died later after giving birth to Duncan's baby. Needless to say, it was not a great year. Not only did she find out that Beaver had caused the bus crash but she also discovered it had been him who had raped her at Shelly's party, and she believed he'd murdered her father too. Keith was fine, but Veronica hadn't known that.

High school was supposed to be about boys and parties, and what college to go to, not about murders and a town being divided, and everything else that had happened during the course of her time at Neptune High. There was some good things that had happened, but the bad outweighed the good by far, and Veronica could not wait to leave Neptune High behind her.
